Part of planning every trip to a new area is figuring out how you are going to get around. In an area like Kuala Lumpur, you won’t want to spend all of your time in your hotel room. You’ll want to make sure that you can get around when you need to.
Luckily, there are plenty of public transportation options in the area. Most of these options are very affordable; you won’t have to spend much to get around.
KL Sentral & The Train Network
For tourists and visitors, the train station is one of the best options. It’s relatively easy to make sense of, and the trains themselves are very modern-looking. It can be very entertaining to go on a train ride. Head to KL Sentral if you’re planning on taking the train. It is the central hub and interchange for all modes of transport in KL. For example, you could arrive at the KL International Airport, take the airport train called ERL/KLIA Express (Express Rail Link), arrive at KL Sentral within 30 minutes. From KL Sentral you could take the pre-paid Taxi service, the LRT train service (which connects all the major parts of Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs), the Monorail service which connects central KL and shopping areas, or the Rapid KL bus service ( download the bus route map here) which is cheap.

Taxi Service
If you want more control over where you are going in KL, you may want to take a taxi. If you do this, make sure you plan out your day. However, taking a taxi everywhere will cost you a pretty penny. There are ways to save cost. Apart from the metered Taxi option, you could try app-based call Taxi services like Uber and GrabCar.
Once you’re in the right area, you should easily be able to walk where you need to go. Kuala Lumpur is fairly spread out, but in a high-activity area, there will be plenty of sights within walking distance.
The Bus Network
You will also have the option of taking a bus. Buses are harder to make sense of than trains. While signs are bi-lingual at train stations, this usually isn’t true of buses. If you take a bus, you may want to find one specifically aimed at tourists. If you are staying in KL for a short while, do try the Hop-On Hop Service that caters for tourists. For a single fare, you could ride the bus, alight at all the major attractions spot and then catch the next available bus to continue.
Transportation in Kuala Lumpur shouldn’t be a big challenge for most travellers and expats. You should be able to figure out how to get to everywhere you want to go. Take your time and enjoy the sights and sounds of Kuala Lumpur! This is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do.
